NXT vs. AEW Dynamite is officially back for one night, and WWE apparently isn’t planning to show up quietly. The November 4 episode of NXT is now confirmed to be going head-to-head with AEW Blood & Guts, and WWE has been told to load up the show.
Bryan Alvarez of the Wrestling Observer confirmed the Wednesday night showdown after there had previously been some uncertainty about whether NXT would actually make the move. He added that NXT was told to load up the show.
“Confirmed that November 4th NXT and AEW are going head-to-head. That’s the Blood and Guts show and NXT was told to load it up.”
That last part makes things especially interesting. There’s no word yet on exactly what WWE plans to add to NXT, but being told to “load it up” certainly suggests the company isn’t treating this like an ordinary episode.
The move itself had been expected because The CW will have coverage connected to the U.S. midterm elections on Tuesday, November 3. Rather than risk NXT being preempted across a bunch of affiliates, the show was expected to slide over to Wednesday for that week. Dave Meltzer previously said he’d heard The CW wanted the move, although he couldn’t confirm at the time that everything was finalized.
“I don’t know this 100%. I was told by people who know that CW wants to move NXT to that Wednesday. It probably will be moved because if it’s on Tuesday, it’ll be preempted on far too many stations.”
Now that move is confirmed, and WWE couldn’t have landed on a much bigger night for AEW. November 4 is the annual Blood & Guts edition of Dynamite, with AEW already planning two Blood & Guts matches for the show.
Meltzer had previously suggested that NXT might need to come out of Halloween Havoc with a major angle to give viewers a reason to tune in that Wednesday. With Alvarez now reporting that NXT has actually been told to load up the episode, it looks like WWE is preparing for a fight once the two shows go head-to-head.
There will be even more WWE programming fighting for attention that night too. EVOLVE airs Wednesdays at 8 PM ET on Tubi, while Main Event also occupies the same time slot on Rumble, meaning WWE could have three shows running while Blood & Guts is happening.
The schedule change may have started because of election coverage, but November 4 is no longer looking like a simple one-week move for NXT. With WWE reportedly loading up the show and AEW already bringing out Blood & Guts, wrestling fans are getting another full-blown Wednesday night showdown.
