Omos’ victory over Rey Mysterio at AAA TripleMania 34 Night One got plenty of people talking, but it wasn’t just because he earned his way back into AAA. The post-match attack also drew comparisons to one of the most memorable moments of Paul Wight’s career, and now the former WWE and AEW star has shared his thoughts on seeing the spot recreated.
After defeating Mysterio to have his AAA suspension lifted, Omos wasn’t finished. He attacked the WWE Hall of Famer after the match, eventually lifting Rey while he was strapped to a spine board and chokeslamming him through a table. The moment immediately reminded fans of Big Show hurling Mysterio into a ring post while he was strapped to a backboard during their famous WWE rivalry.
During a virtual signing with Signed By Superstars on October 4, Wight was asked about Omos recreating the spot. While he didn’t seem upset about it, he made it clear he’d already seen the comparisons. Wight then laughed it off by saying he views it as a compliment more than anything else.
“I already saw it when they tried to copy it. They had somebody else do my spot. So I was like, ‘Ehh,’ you know? What is it? Imitation is the best form of flattery or whatever.”
The original moment between Big Show and Rey Mysterio has remained one of the most replayed visuals of their rivalry for years, so it didn’t take long for fans to notice the similarities when Omos recreated it at TripleMania. While Wight acknowledged the comparison, he didn’t appear bothered by it and instead seemed to appreciate that one of his signature moments is still memorable enough to inspire a modern version.
