John Cena’s Personal Life

John Cena’s path to professional wrestling success was not a direct one. Prior to entering the world of wrestling, Cena was an accomplished athlete, having been an NCAA Division III All American Center during his time at Princeton College, where he earned a degree in exercise physiology and body movement in 1998. Following graduation, Cena pursued a career in bodybuilding while working as a limousine driver. It wasn’t until 1999, when he began training at Rick Bassman’s Ultimate University under Ultimate Pro Wrestling (UPW), that he decided to pursue professional wrestling.

At UPW, Cena adopted the persona of The Prototype, a semi-robotic cyborg character. He quickly gained attention and was featured on the Discovery Channel program Inside Pro Wrestling School. Cena’s success continued in the ring, culminating in his UPW Championship win, which lasted almost a month. It wasn’t long before the World Wrestling Federation (now known as WWE) took notice and signed Cena in 2001.

In 2020, Cena married Canadian engineer Shay Sharietzadeh.
