This Sunday night John Cena did the business for Roman Reigns and once again said goodbye to the WWE for the next few months. With the cinema release of Fernando on the horizon and filming presumably likely to start on the Transformers spin-off movie, Bumble-Bee soon, chances are we won’t see him back in the WWE until Wrestlemania season.
John Cena, despite his ever decreasing appearances, is still one of the biggest draws in WWE and the company will always find room for him on the grandest stage of all. Cena will become an attraction similar to Brock Lesnar or The Undertaker, only making appearances on the big shows. With his glory days behind him, Cena is also at a time in his career where he is more than willing to give younger talent the rub. So who should Cena face at next year’s Wrestlemania? Let’s take a look at five potential opponents for Big Match John on the biggest night of the year.
Bobby Roode
Bobby Roode, if booked correctly, is destined for great things in the WWE. His recent appearances on Smackdown Live have shown that he is massively over with the crowd, he has the best entrance in the WWE, and he has a fine history that is littered with championship gold in various promotions.
While Kevin Owens is excellent at the moment, Smackdown is still in need of a superstar heel, and Bobby Roode is the perfect superstar to fill that void. It is highly unlikely that he will be lingering around the mid-card for too long and with Shinsuke and AJ dominating as the top faces on Smackdown, Roode would fit into the Smackdown main event effortlessly. While it is likely he will be given a run with the US title before being pushed to the WWE title picture, a major feud with John Cena during Wrestlemania season would give the star the legitimacy required to be a massive player in the WWE.
John Cena has also never been one to shy away from big entrances at Wrestlemania and seeing Roode’s entrance on the big stage is definitely going to be something special.
