To anyone on the outside looking in, the Lone Wolf’s future is very much in jeopardy. Baron Corbin is now one of three men to not win the title when cashing in their Money in the Bank contract. After attempting to steal the title from Jinder Mahal, a distraction by Cena left Corbin championship-less and decidedly apoplectic.
Where does Corbin go from here? What is next for him? With all the rumors flying out of WWE, it’s hard to know what’s next. There are rumors of backstage heat, and maybe even politicking. Are these true? I don’t know.
Still, the question remains: what is next for Baron Corbin?
He Still Has His Match with Cena
Right now, many people are saying that Corbin’s been “buried,” which simply means that all his credibility as a wrestler has been removed. I think it’s still a bit early to say that. He’s still supposed to face John Cena in singles action come Summerslam. The recent tradition has been for Cena to lose at Summerslam. He hasn’t won at the event since 2010. 2011 & 2012 saw him lose to Punk. In 2013, he lost to Daniel Bryan. 2014 was when Brock Lesnar squashed him. In 2015 he lost to Seth Rollins. Just last year, AJ Styles defeated him. I don’t see why this year should be any different.
Baron is one of WWE’s own. He didn’t come from the indies. He’s one of the very few homegrown talents WWE has. If they are intent on turning him into something big, then they cannot undercut his momentum by having Cena win against him at Summerslam. It doesn’t make sense.
I wholeheartedly believe that Corbin is going to leave Summerslam looking like a big deal. After that, it’s only up for him.
He Will Still Compete in Big Matches
Remember 8 months ago, when Corbin faced Dolph Ziggler and AJ Styles in an excellent triple threat for the WWE Championship? Hardly anyone thought Corbin looked out of place. On the contrary, people thought Corbin showed he could hang with the best. He just needs the right booking, and the right opponent.
