Mercedes Mone’s arrival in AEW has significantly reshaped the promotion’s landscape and while she has seen lots of success already, she has her fair share of haters. That’s why it comes as no surprise that Mone decided to call out some old podcasters who mocked her vision for women’s wrestling after her WWE exit.
While writing in her MoneMag newsletter, Mercedes Mone called out the
old guy” podcasters who made fun of her when she left WWE. She said her goal was to improve women’s wrestling and create more opportunities worldwide. She pointed out that these podcasters mocked her for having this vision.
Mone explained that while her name gets attention and clicks, she believes that when WWE and AEW wrestlers work with other promotions, it helps reach that goal. She also gave a shout-out to Tony Khan, thanking him for understanding this and supporting other promotions, especially by letting her pursue different opportunities outside of AEW.
“When I left WWE, the goal was to elevate women’s wrestling and create more global opportunities and exposure. Many of the old guy podcasters mocked me for that and mocked that notion.
I know publishing anything with my name gets them clicks and views, but I also believe that any of us from WWE and AEW, working in other promotions, when possible, helps achieve that goal.
Shout out to Tony Khan for getting that, supporting so many other promotions, and especially allowing me to do so.”
Mercedes Mone left WWE in 2022 due to creative differences with Vince McMahon and there’s no denying how much she has accomplished in the past couple of years. While the likes of Eric Bischoff continue to criticize her, Mone has made it clear she couldn’t care less as she has a goal in mind to elevate women’s professional wrestling as a whole.
