WWE made waves with its January 7 episode of NXT, kicking off the new year with some major changes. One of the night’s highlights was Corey Graves joining Vic Joseph and Booker T to create a new three-man commentary team for the developmental brand. While fans were excited about Graves’ return to his NXT roots, questions quickly arose about his status on WWE’s main roster.

During Wrestling Observer Radio, Bryan Alvarez raised the question of whether Graves would be stepping away from the main roster for the time being. Dave Meltzer confirmed the speculation, saying, “Yep, yep, yep… he will be off until football season, and then they will bring him back.”

Meltzer indicated that Graves’ shift to NXT is tied to Pat McAfee’s return to Monday Night RAW, as McAfee is expected to rejoin the main roster commentary team once the football season concludes.

Graves, who began his commentary career in NXT after his wrestling career was cut short due to concussion issues, expressed his excitement about the opportunity. On NXT, Graves mentioned that The Rock’s presence this week made his return even more special, along with the chance to work alongside WWE Hall of Famer Booker T.

For now, Graves’ focus will be on NXT, where his dynamic presence on commentary is sure to shake things up. Fans will have to wait until football season to see him back on WWE’s main roster.
