On this week’s episode, Will Ospreay defeated Buddy Matthews and made a pointed comment encouraging Matthews to “step out of the shadow of Malakai Black,” leading many to question Black’s status in AEW.

According to Fightful Select, sources within the company have suggested that Black may be finishing up with AEW, though it’s unclear if he’ll make another TV appearance. “Those that we spoke to in the company were of the belief that he was finishing up with AEW if he hadn’t already,” one source said. However, there was no official confirmation on whether Black had already left or if his status would be addressed on screen.

Earlier reports indicated that AEW had option years in Black’s contract after 2025, and while Tony Khan previously noted that Black was under contract with AEW until 2027, the specifics of his deal remain unclear.
