Jacob Fatu’s rise within WWE has been a topic of discussion behind the scenes, with major plans reportedly being set in motion for his push as a top star in the company.
According to Billi Bhatti on the Dirty Sheets Backstage podcast, WWE had initially considered a high-profile match for Roman Reigns against Fatu at WrestleMania 41 before plans dramatically shifted.
Bhatti revealed that around the time of Bad Blood, WWE had a clear vision for the event, with several major matches already in place. “It was Seth Rollins vs. CM Punk, it was Logan Paul vs. John Cena, it was a rematch between Becky Lynch and Rhea Ripley, it was Tiffany Stratton vs. Charlotte Flair, and it was The Rock vs. Cody Rhodes, with potentially Roman Reigns added to the match,” Bhatti explained. However, if that match between The Rock and Cody Rhodes didn’t materialize, Reigns was set to face Fatu, marking a key moment in both men’s careers.
While the idea of Reigns vs. Fatu seemed underwhelming for some in terms of the larger narrative, Bhatti explained that the match was designed to push Jacob Fatu into the spotlight. “Roman Reigns would have gone on to face Jacob Fatu, which is a match they have saved,” Bhatti said. “The idea is to push Jacob Fatu for the next 12 months to the top of the card, and facing Roman Reigns is a huge rub for him.”
The opportunity for Fatu to go up against Reigns, one of the most dominant figures in WWE history, would have given Fatu an incredible boost, solidifying his place as a future top star. As Bhatti pointed out, “If you’re against Roman, you’re a big deal and you’re getting a big push.”
However, as plans shifted at Survivor Series, where Seth Rollins was replaced by CM Punk, WWE’s original vision was torn up. With The Rock’s new suggestion to focus WrestleMania 41 around John Cena, Fatu’s push and his planned match with Reigns were seemingly put on hold. That said, depending on how things unfold in the coming weeks, WWE could still bring this high-profile matchup back into play.
With Jacob Fatu’s push potentially on the horizon, WWE fans are left wondering if the company will pull the trigger on his big moment. While things have shifted around WrestleMania 41, Fatu’s future is still up in the air. The possibility of him facing Roman Reigns could be a game-changer, but only time will tell if WWE decides to put that plan back into motion.
