The Rock made a major splash at NXT New Year’s Evil, but before stepping into the arena, he had a backstage encounter with Ethan Page and his daughter, NXT GM Ava, that fans won’t soon forget.
In classic Rock fashion, he wasted no time addressing Ethan Page, saying, “I’ve heard a lot about you—and not all good.” Ethan, unfazed, smirked in response, but The Rock laid down the law. “If you ever need anything, you can call me. But remember this: I’m the Final Boss, and on this show, she’s the Final Boss,” Rock said, pointing to Ava. Before walking away, The Rock added, “I’ll see you on the main roster one day,” giving Ethan a playful slap on the ass, leaving the room with a mix of laughter and tension.
The exchange wasn’t over yet. The Rock turned to Ava for advice about what to say during his appearance. “I don’t know what the f*** I’m going to say out there,” he admitted, prompting Ava to highlight the passion of the NXT fans. “You’ll feel it when you get out there,” she said, with a smirk that hinted at her confidence in her father’s legendary ability to command a crowd.
Earlier in the segment, Ava reminded Ethan that, despite his recent antics and dismissive attitude toward injured wrestler Je’Von Evans, “This is my show, and I call the shots.” The Rock’s arrival further cemented Ava’s authority, making it clear that even though The Great One casts a long shadow, she’s firmly in control of NXT.
The Rock’s humor, charm, and commanding presence left an impact backstage before he even stepped into the arena. His quick wit and chemistry with Ava only further demonstrated why he’s one of the biggest stars in wrestling history—and why Ava is carving out her own space in the business.
