Sheamus made his long-awaited return from injury during the April 15th edition of Monday Night RAW, but many fans noticed that Sheamus looked noticeably heavier than when they last saw him and they were generally concerned. While Sheamus is obviously in better shape now, he has now revealed why he looked so out of shape in the first place.
While speaking to Chris Van Vliet, Sheamus was asked about his unexpected weight gain during his WWE return last year. Sheamus admitted he gained weight after indulging in too many burgers and Guinness, especially after his WrestleMania 40 plans fell through.
The Celtic Warrior explained that he had been training hard and aiming for a match against GUNTHER to complete their trilogy at WrestleMania, but when that didn’t happen, he lost motivation and discipline. He said it was his own fault for taking his foot off the gas and enjoying himself a little too much.
“Obviously, I put a lot of weight on. The burger after burger thing when I came back cause I was hoping to make it at Mania, but when that didn’t happen I kinda lost a bit of my discipline, took the foot off the gas too much. It’s on me, mate. So I was pushing for that GUNTHER match at Mania and it just didn’t happen. So, I was really hoping to end the trilogy, so I lost a bit of motivation. It was like full on speed towards that. So once that was kiboshed, I was like, ‘Ah f*** whatever.’ So then I took the foot off the gas, probably drank too many Guinness. Enjoying myself too much.”
Sheamus also made light of the body shaming he received from fans and implemented a rigorous workout. The Celtic Warrior is now better than ever and is clearly in the best shape of his life, so we’ll have to wait and see if he will end up becoming a champion this year.
