WWE knew that the world’s eyes were on them for their episode of NXT on January 7. They delivered a card full of big matches to start off this new year, and the Heritage Cup was on the line in a very interesting way.

In a Sudden Death Rules match, the NXT Heritage Cup was on the line. Lexis King fought for the cup against Charlie Dempsey in a match that promised to get pretty violent.

This match was very different from conventional Heritage Cup rules. This was a one fall to a finish contest, which was not a rounds style clash. Naturally, both competitors hit the gate at full steam.

These two trade advantage in this match, and then Lexis King took control with a dive just before they cut to commercial. The two continued fighting throughout the commercial break, but Dempsey had Lexis in a submission hold when they came back.

Lexis King wanted to prove that he was nothing like his father, and he wanted to win everything on his own without cheating. The two fought it out, without any breaks that they would normally receive in a Heritage Cup match.

Near the finish, Lexis King accidentally nailed Dempsey with a low blow. Then he hit a Coronation for the win. Now, he has finally won the Heritage Cup on his own.
