WWE Hall of Famer Hulk Hogan knows how to make an impact with his appearances, both in and out of wrestling. He’s set to appear on the debut episode of Monday Night RAW on Netflix on January 6th. Many fans wondered why he would be appearing in the first place, and now the potential reason for his appearance has been revealed.

While speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer reveals the potential reason for Hulk Hogan’s appearance on RAW this week. He noted that Hogan wasn’t featured on the first Saturday Night’s Main Event because there was a reason WWE didn’t want him involved.

However, they reversed that decision, likely because the first Saturday Night’s Main Event didn’t perform as well as expected. Meltzer believes WWE is putting Hogan on the Netflix debut to help build up the upcoming Saturday Night’s Main Event in San Antonio.

“They didn’t show him on the first Saturday Night’s Main Event. There’s a reason they didn’t want him. They obviously reversed that decision, and I think it’s because the first Saturday Night’s Main Event didn’t do nearly as well they thought. Put him on the Netflix debut to build up Saturday Night’s Main Event.”

The December 14th edition of Saturday Night’s Main Event garnered an overall viewership of 1,590,000 with a 0.42 rating in the crucial 18 to 49 demographic. When taking the viewership from Peacock into account, the show garnered 2.3 million viewers in the end.

Many felt this number was below expectations considering the hype for the event. Perhaps that’s why it’s no surprise Hulk Hogan has already promoted the January 25, 2025 edition of Saturday Night’s Main Event, which will air live from the Frost Bank Center in San Antonio, Texas.

Regardless, we’ll have to wait and see how Hulk Hogan will help build up the upcoming edition of Saturday Night’s Main Event. It’s clear that WWE wants to improve on the previous show, and using the Hulkster could be their strategy to make it a success.
