John Cena Speaks on Bringing Back Throwback Characters During WWE Retirement Run

WWE RAW brought their big Netflix debut for the January 6 episode of the show. That included John Cena kicking off his retirement tour, and he did so in a big way.

John Cena proclaimed that he will win the 2025 Royal Rumble match. That is one of the few ways he can see himself getting to that 17x World Champion status. A lot of things are on the table for him, and that could include some characters that we haven’t seen in a while.

During the press conference after the big RAW Netflix debut, John Cena was asked about bringing back some of his most famous characters during this retirement tour. He made it clear that Peacemaker is property of DC, but you can never say never in WWE.

That being said, Cena has portrayed other characters in WWE, including the Prototype. He spoke on the possibility of fans seeing those other characters, and he didn’t nix any of them.

“The Prototype, I don’t know if I have the hair to grow out the blonde sting again, but the Prototype wore the colors of the home team, so to speak. I’m really looking forward to going back to the way I started. Thug Life, the Doctor of Thuganomics, would always wear away jerseys, so there’s already elements of what I want to do in front of you. I think, hopefully, by the end of all this, if you want to see a certain facet of the 23 years I’ve been in the business, hopefully, you’ll see a sprinkle.”

John Cena also made it clear that he doesn’t know how many matches he will wrestle this year. He has committed to just under 40 dates, but only time will tell how many matches he has. Cena said he just shows up to work and does whatever is on the menu in that regard.

We will have to see what the future holds for John Cena this year in WWE. He certainly got off to a good start on Netflix this week.
