WWE is always trying to broaden their horizons and continue their global expansion, which is why it wasn’t a surprise when it was announced that the 2026 Royal Rumble will be held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. However, it appears quite a few fans were not happy with this decision at all.

The General Entertainment Authority’s HE Turki Alalshikh took to Twitter and uploaded the promotional video for the 2026 Royal Rumble Premium Live Event taking place in Saudi Arabia, as he was clearly happy to make the announcement, saying, “For the first time in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the legendary Royal Rumble is coming to #RiyadhSeason on January 2026 A historic night for WWE fans.”

However, fans on social media did not share the same enthusiasm. One fan took to Twitter and in a sarcastic tone stated they couldn’t wait for the Rumble in Saudi Arabia, claiming it would have zero atmosphere, saying, “cannot wait for zero atmosphere, so excited!”

Another fan pointed out how WWE and Saudi Arabia’s deal remains covered in blood, saying, “Blood money rules all.” Another fan showed their disdain by uploading a photo that said to boycott the Royal Rumble in Saudi Arabia. Another fan simply stated that they hated the idea of the Rumble taking place there, saying, “Thanks. We hate it.”

WWE’s partnership with Saudi Arabia has faced criticism because of the country’s human rights issues and its use of “sportswashing” to improve its image. However, WWE says that these events are important for their business and to grow their fanbase in the region.

As WWE gets ready for the 2026 Royal Rumble, they will need to address the concerns of fans while continuing to expand globally. Despite the criticism, WWE’s events in Saudi Arabia have made a lot of money, showing that they are committed to their partnership with the country.
