John Cena shocked fans at WWE’s 2024 Money in the Bank event in Toronto by announcing his upcoming retirement from professional wrestling. With his farewell tour set to kick off in January 2025, Cena has promised fans a year-long journey to bid farewell to the industry that made him a household name. However, Triple H revealed in a recent interview that WWE is still ironing out the details of this monumental final chapter for Cena.
Speaking on the SI Media Podcast with Jimmy Traina, Triple H shed light on Cena’s mindset and how WWE plans to structure his final year. “I think he will always be part of WWE. I think it’s in his DNA. I think he will always do stuff with us but in-ring, as a performer, I think when he’s done, he’s done,” Triple H said.
Triple H confirmed that Cena’s year-long farewell tour will include major milestones like his final appearances at the Royal Rumble, Elimination Chamber, and WrestleMania 41 in 2025. Still, the specifics of the tour are far from set in stone. “What the year will look like? We are still figuring it out,” he admitted.
“Obviously John is very busy, but he has made this his prime commitment for the year, and he’s kind of all in. He’s going to make some live events, he’s going to make TVs—not everything. It’s supply and demand as well. He will make select premium live events. He’s going to wrestle a lot, he’s going to perform a lot. It’s sort of a one-calendar-year thing, and then he’s going to call it a day.”
Cena’s farewell tour isn’t about chasing championships or headlining one last WrestleMania, according to Triple H. “John sort of has a mindset that he wants to go to all the places he went, sort of. Just to go there one more time and sort of say thank you. It’s not about, ‘I got to main event WrestleMania one more time, or I got to be the main event of this TV show, or I got to win the title again.’ It’s none of that. It’s one last loop. It’s one last tour that lasts a year.”
While Cena has been open about his excitement for this final run, Triple H’s comments suggest the details are still being hashed out to ensure the tour does justice to Cena’s storied career. For fans, this means plenty of surprises and emotional moments as Cena says goodbye to the WWE Universe.
As for Cena, he’s making sure the tour is as much about the fans as it is about his legacy. “This is my way, for an audience that has made me who I am after 22-23 years of investment, to say, ‘Hey, I’m going to give you six months, that’s your warning. And then in January we’re going on tour, and then in December I’m hanging them up. So let’s all get together at various spots around the world the next calendar year and get loud and rowdy one more time.’”
John Cena’s farewell tour promises to be a historic year in WWE history. With WWE still finalizing his schedule, fans are gearing up for what could be the most emotional goodbye in wrestling.
