Just hours before the January 4 edition of AEW Collision, Tony Khan took to Twitter to address what many suspected—travel chaos for the AEW crew.

“TONIGHT Saturday Night #AEWCollision simulcast debuts on @SportsOnMax + TNT! 8pm ET/7pm CT TONIGHT! It’s been a crazy travel day for much of our crew, but every advertised wrestler + commentary team + most of our backstage team made it here! See you on @TNTdrama + MAX TONIGHT!” Khan wrote.

While Khan didn’t provide details on the travel issues, weather reports paint a clear picture of the challenges the AEW team faced. Subfreezing temperatures and icy roads caused by an Arctic air mass have gripped Charlotte, North Carolina, and the surrounding areas. The National Weather Service issued a winter storm watch, warning of dangerous driving conditions and power outages in regions like Old Fort, Banner Elk, Spruce Pine, and Newland.

“Ice accumulations will create treacherous driving conditions,” meteorologists stated in a bulletin early Saturday, adding that the conditions are expected to linger through the week.

Despite the obstacles, AEW has ensured that every advertised wrestler and most of the backstage team made it to the Bojangles Coliseum for tonight’s show. The event promises action-packed matches, including title bouts and appearances by legends like The Rock ‘n’ Roll Express.

Fans are eager to see how AEW delivers under these challenging circumstances, but the resilience of the company and its crew is already earning praise.
