WWE will begin a new era of Friday Night SmackDown this week, as the blue brand will now be a three-hour show for the foreseeable future. With an extra hour added to the show, it appears WWE plans to showcase underutilized talent more.

Chris Featherstone, who has broken several stories lately, took to Twitter and reported that SmackDown will focus on giving more screen time to underused talent. One of the names discussed is Blair Davenport, who is expected to get more opportunities with the show’s new format.

“Tonight marks the first WWE #SmackDown of the new 3-hour format. I was informed that internally, a major focus will be to showcase more underutilized talent on the program. As I previously reported, Blair Davenport has been a name discussed for more television time and will “be off and running” with the new format.”

Davenport joined the SmackDown roster last year but hasn’t been on television much since. Her last match was in late November, where she lost a Triple Threat match in the first round of the WWE Women’s United States Title Tournament to Chelsea Green.

WWE’s decision to make SmackDown longer fits their plan to focus on better storytelling and character growth. While some fans worry about content fatigue, the chance to see underused stars like Blair Davenport and new matchups definitely makes the change worthwhile. Therefore, we’ll have to wait and see how WWE will book Blair Davenport and other underutilized Superstars in the coming months.
