NXT Level Up helped establish younger stars before they made their way to the main NXT brand, but the show was ultimately cancelled last year. With that said, the replacement for NXT Level Up has now been revealed.
According to Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, WWE is planning a new show called NXT Evolve. Gabe Sapolsky, who worked with Paul Heyman in ECW and was a key figure at ROH before starting EVOLVE, will be involved in the project.
Meltzer reported that Level Up will be replaced by NXT Evolve, but it won’t start right away. The show is expected to debut in a few months. It will feature talent in development who aren’t on NXT TV regularly similar to Level Up. However, unlike just match-based content, NXT Evolve will include angles, promos, and a more structured television-style format. It was noted that the show will be taped specifically for television or streaming.
“Level Up is being replaced by something called NXT Evolve although not at the start of the year. We’ve heard to expect it in a few months. It’s a Gabe Sapolsky project and essentially would be people in developmental but not on NXT television regularly, like Level Up. I think that instead of just matches, to do angles and promos and book it more like a television show. It will be shows taped only for television/streaming.”
Interestingly enough, NXT Evolve had been in the works since 2021 but the company never went through with it, as NXT Level Up ended up debuting in 2022 instead. Regardless, we’ll have to wait and see whether NXT Evolve will prove to be a success, as 2025 is certainly going to be a year of changes for WWE.
