Darby Allin is obviously known for his resilience and ability to endure intense punishment, which is why he’s currently preparing himself for the most dangerous venture in his life, as he will be climbing Mount Everest this year. In fact, Allin has now revealed his intense training routine for the climb.
While speaking to the Under the Ring podcast, Darby Allin talked about his rigorous training for climbing Mount Everest. A big part of his prep is breath training, where he’s practiced holding his breath for up to three minutes and 40 seconds. When asked to show it, he decided to do it underwater to prove he wasn’t cheating.
Allin stated that being in water and bent over made it much harder than his usual training, but he still managed to hold his breath for over three minutes. He found it tough but fun and said the overall Everest training is the hardest he’s ever done. Even though it’s really challenging, he enjoys pushing himself to his limits and finds it rewarding.
“We’re talking about training for Everest because I’ve been training a lot, and a big part of it has to do with breath work. I was holding my breath for up to three minutes and 40 seconds. Then someone said, ‘Can we see it?’ I thought, if I do it on air, I need to do it in water so no one thinks I’m cheating.
So, I tried it in water, but being bent over in that position was very different from my usual breath work routine. It was a fun challenge, and I managed to get a little over three minutes in the bowl of water. That’s crazy, right?
Training for Everest is some of the hardest training I’ve ever done in my life, but it’s also amazing. I love being pushed to my absolute limit, but yeah, it’s definitely tough.”
Darby Allin will be climbing Mount Everest in April this year and he is going through with the trek despite the fact that Sting tried to talk him out of it.
