Dax Harwood and Cash Wheeler always try to make sure they do what is best for AEW, even if it comes at their own expense. In fact, Harwood has now revealed the original plans for the four way AEW Tag Team Title match at Full Gear, which was supposed to feature FTR.
While speaking to WrestleZone, Dax Harwood addressed criticism, saying some fans think FTR worked with The Outrunners just because they were popular. He clarified that this wasn’t the case and pointed out that many behind-the-scenes decisions that often go unnoticed.
Dax Harwood revealed that FTR was originally supposed to be part of the four-way AEW Tag Team Title match at Full Gear. However, he spoke to Tony Khan and asked for FTR’s spot to be given to The Outrunners instead. He explained that this decision was made because he felt The Outrunners had worked hard and deserved the opportunity.
“People said we latched onto The Outrunners because of their popularity. I would beg anyone to ask The Outrunners what they thought of us and how they felt we helped them. Never once—there’s a lot that happens behind the scenes, and you know what? I’ll say it—who cares?
For example, at the last pay-per-view, the four-way tag team title match, FTR was supposed to be in one of those spots. I went to Tony and said, ‘Hey man, these guys have worked their asses off. They deserve that spot. Take us out and put them in.’ And he did. He agreed with me.”
The four way match saw Private Party successfully retain their AEW Tag Team Titles against The Outrunners, Kings of the Black Throne and The Acclaimed at Full Gear. The Outrunners definitely received a lot of attention during the match and that’s exactly what Dax Harwood wanted in the end.
