R-Truth remains one of the most beloved Superstars in all of WWE since he can make fans cheer for him without breaking a sweat. However, some fans genuinely want him to turn heel again, and now R-Truth has set the record straight on potentially turning to the dark side in WWE.
While speaking to Chris Van Vliet, R-Truth was asked whether he would turn heel again in WWE in the future. He admitted that he has thought about it and likes the idea of showing fans a different side of him. Most people know him as the funny, positive guy, and he thinks it would be interesting to try being a heel again.
“There’s a part of me that does want to turn heel again. I think it’s the selfish part, just for people to see me as a heel because a couple of generations have only known me as ‘R-Truth’—the fun guy, the comedic guy. A lot of people haven’t seen that other side of me, the one that can still be brought out.”
Truth compared himself to Rey Mysterio, who has never been a bad guy in WWE. He said part of him wants to show he can be a great heel, but he also knows there are already plenty of bad guys in wrestling. He believes someone needs to stay as the good guy and make people feel happy.
“There are times I’ve thought about turning heel, but people always tell me, ‘Truth, they don’t want to see you as a heel. You make people feel good.’ It’s like how Rey Mysterio has never been a heel in WWE. You know what I’m saying? So, I think to myself, ‘Damn, am I just like Rey?’
There’s a part of me that selfishly wants to turn heel because I know I can be a good one. I can be a good a******, you know what I’m saying? But then there’s that other part of me that realizes there are already so many bad guys. Somebody’s got to be one of the good ones, you know?”
The former United States Champion also stated that being a good guy isn’t always easy because fans still criticize you sometimes. Even if he tried to do something bad, like when he smoked a cigarette on TV, fans simply thought it was the coolest thing instead of hating him.
“Being a bad guy is easy. Can you be a good guy? Even as a good guy, people still might say, ‘You suck!’ when they’re supposed to cheer for you. But you’ve got to stick to being a good guy.
Selfishly, I’d love to turn heel and show people that side of me, but I know deep down I could never truly be a heel. Even if I did something bad, they’d probably think it was cool. Like when I smoked a cigarette on TV, people thought it was the coolest thing.”
Ultimately, R-Truth admitted that while he’d enjoy the chance to explore a heel character just once, he doesn’t feel the need to make the switch. He embraces his current role, understanding that his connection with fans is rooted in his ability to make them smile and feel good.
“To be a true heel, you’ve got to be grimy, you’ve got to get that real, genuine hatred and heat. If I did something heelish, people would probably just cheer for me to do it again. Selfishly, I’d love to see what it would be like to turn heel just once, but I know I don’t have to.”
In the meantime, R-Truth has already made it clear he plans to wrestle for as long as his body will allow him. Therefore, fans will have to accept the fact that Truth will never turn heel again in WWE, and that’s likely for the best.
