Monday Night Raw will be making its debut on Netflix on January 6, 2025 and WWE has loaded up the show with tons of incredible matches that already make it a must-see episode. With that said, Sami Zayn has now revealed that some matches from the card were also considered for WrestleMania 41 this year.

While speaking on the Battleground podcast, it was pointed out to Sami Zayn that Seth Rollins vs. CM Punk, and Roman Reigns vs. Solo Sikoa are two of the biggest matches on the card for Raw’s Netflix debut. Zayn was simply asked what he was looking forward to most during the show.

In response, Sami Zayn revealed that the above-mentioned matches were originally considered for WrestleMania 41. Zayn explained that having these matches on the Netflix premiere shows how important this move is for WWE. Both matches could have been the main event at WrestleMania, which shows how seriously WWE is taking this new partnership.

“Well, just to give you a little bit of, um, insight, I suppose, to just the—the heaviness of just the two matches that you listed. Between you and me, I will tell you, I heard rumblings about both of those matches being WrestleMania matches. So the fact that they’re on Netflix—the Netflix premiere—tells you what a big deal this is.

Like, those matches could have been the culmination of year-long stories at WrestleMania, both of them good enough to be WrestleMania matches, and they’re—they’re on the premiere of Netflix. So it tells you what a big deal it is that we’re moving there. And, uh, you know, WWE—say what you will about them—they go all out when it’s time to go all out, and they’re going all out for this Netflix thing.”

Zayn praised WWE for always giving their best when it matters most. He called the move to Netflix a “game-changer” and said it’s the first time Raw won’t be on regular TV. While it’s still unclear how this will change things, he said it’s a huge moment for WWE and wrestling.

“I don’t know how it’s going to change the game, but it is definitely a game-changer. Um, for the first time ever, Raw is just not on conventional television. It’s—it’s crazy.”

The January 6th episode of Monday Night Raw promises to kick off the Netflix era in a big way since it’s evident the premiere promises to be a WrestleMania-level spectacle. Therefore, we’ll have to wait and see whether the show truly lives up to all the hype in the end.
