Nick Gage’s name has been circulating in wrestling circles as a potential free agent for AEW, but it doesn’t look like that door will open. AEW reportedly isn’t likely to sign Gage, and for a good reason: his past actions have left a lasting impression—not all of it positive.
When asked about the possibility of Gage joining AEW During Sean Ross Sapp’s Fightful Select Q&A, it was made clear: “No, they won’t. He doesn’t fit in AEW, and also the pizza cutter spot cost them quite a few sponsors.”
The infamous pizza cutter moment in question occurred during Gage’s AEW debut match against Chris Jericho in 2021. As Gage sliced Jericho with his signature weapon, the segment coincided with a picture-in-picture ad for Domino’s Pizza. The shocking visual didn’t sit well with Domino’s or other corporate sponsors, putting AEW in hot water and complicating Gage’s potential future with the promotion.
While Gage continues to make waves in deathmatch wrestling, AEW’s focus on balancing high-profile matches with broader corporate appeal makes his hardcore style a tough sell. For now, it seems like Gage will remain on the outside looking in, leaving fans to wonder where the “King of the Deathmatch” will land next.
