AEW’s Worlds End came live from the Addition Financial Arena in Orlando, Florida, and Tony Khan loaded up the card. One highlight saw Mercedes Mone defend her TBS Title against Kris Statlander in her final title match of 2024.
The TBS Title match was the sixth of the night, right after Konosuke Takeshita retained the International Championship over Powerhouse Hobbs. Fans in Orlando were still incredibly lively for this contest.
This contest also received a big match feel, thanks to Justin Roberts giving both competitors a grand introduction on the microphone. This match was fierce, and it included several near falls as well. Naturally, neither woman wanted to lose this big match.
During the match, Mercedes Mone kicked out of a piledriver that almost saw a title change. They continued and Mercedes landed a Money Maker at ringside to lay them both out. Mercedes didn’t let the referee count Kris Statlander out, so she went outside to break up the count and cause even more damage. Statlander’s foot was stuck in the ring, so she took off her boot.
Mercedes Mone barely kicked out after an F5 in the ring, so they carried on. The former Sasha Banks nailed a belly to belly piledriver on the apron after that, but Statlander made it back into the ring before the referee could count to ten. In the end, Mercedes Mone got the win after a roll-up pin.
Mercedes Mone and Kris Statlander have quite a history with each other. Their rivalry kicked off in October, which eventually saw Mone defeating Statlander for the TBS Championship at AEW Full Gear on November 23. Mone’s partnership with Kamille ended shortly after that during the Thanksgiving Eve Dynamite on November 27. Statlander, who is a former TBS Champion, was determined to reclaim the title. At the same time, Mone’s situation with Kamille added a big X-Factor, so we will have to see how that plays out in the future as well.
