AEW closed out 2024 with Worlds End, and that included some big moments. Kenny Omega has been on the shelf for far too long, but that hiatus ended tonight.
After Kazuchika Okada won the 2024 Continental Classic, Chrisphoer Daniels came out to congratulate him. Then he announced that he is no longer an EVP for AEW, but “this man is!” That is when Kenny Omega’s music hit, and he came out to the ring.
Kenny Omega received a huge ovation as he made his way to the ring to crown Okada with the Continental Championship. This return was also a very long time coming for The Cleaner.
It was reported just before AEW Worlds End that Kenny Omega’s return was expected for the pay-per-view. That certainly got a lot of fans to pay closer attention to the event, especially those who miss seeing The Cleaner on television.
Kenny Omega’s diverticulitis hiatus started in early December 2023. That derailed all plans for him, as he was 1/2 of the ROH Tag Team Champions with Chris Jericho at the time. A lot of things have changed since then for AEW and ROH, including Jericho snatching the ROH World Title in the interim period.
Things were really rough for Kenny Omega during his diverticulitis incident. At one point, he was given a reported 50% chance of death. Now he is back in AEW, and only time will tell how his 2025 shapes up. At least we know that AEW has a key player, and EVP, back on the job.
