AEW brought Worlds End 2024 to fans, live from the Addition Financial Arena in Orlando, Florida. There were a lot of reasons for fans to tune in, and that included the final match in this year’s Continental Classic tournament.
Fans have watched the 2024 Continental Classic round-robin tournament closely, and we finally saw the final match go down during AEW’s final pay-per-view before 2025 begins.
The semifinals of the tournament saw Will Ospreay get another chance to take on Kyle Fletcher. Both of those matches had high profile written all over them. They battled in the first match of the night, and Ospreay bled a lot in the process, but Will was still able to pull off the win.
Ricochet took on Kazuchika Okada in the other semifinals match of the night. The One And Only had a ton of heat on him, but Okada came out with the win. That set the finals up for later on in the night. Swerve Strickland also showed up to hand out toilet paper to the crowd, and then he encouraged everyone to wish Ricochet a happy new year by throwing their rolls at him.
The finals went down as the seventh match of the night, right after Mercedes Mone retained the TBS Title against Kris Statlander. Will Ospreay had a huge bandage on his head, and Jim Ross joined the announce team on commentary.
It didn’t take long into the match until Ospreay’s bandage was pulled off and his forehead was bleeding a bit once again. Ospreay and Okada gave their all in this match, and there’s no doubt that fans and critics alike will give it several stars in their reviews.
This match included a ton of near falls, but that should have been expected with these two. Fans in Orlando also praised this contest with “This Is Awesome” and “Fight Forever” chants.
In the end, Kazuchika Okada got the win after a brutal match. This victory was a long time coming for Okada, and now he is the 2024 Continental Classic champion. This marks Okada’s fifth major pro wrestling tournament victory of his career, the first four being G1 Climax wins.
We now have a winner in the 2024 Continental Classic tournament. Although Tony Khan left the door open to the women in AEW getting their own round-robin tournament, nothing of the sort has been announced yet. Only time will tell what 2025 holds for everyone involved.
We will have to see how AEW follows up on this dramatic conclusion of the 2024 Continental Classic tournament. Tony Khan obviously has a plan, and now we know who is riding into 2025 with a huge victory and a plausible major push along with it.
