AEW used to be seen as a safe haven for talent, where performers felt they wouldn’t have to worry about being released or facing mass cuts. However, that perception has changed after the company released several talents earlier this year. That’s precisely why Tony Khan has now addressed whether there will be more cuts in the future.
While speaking during the AEW Worlds End media call, Josh Nason asked Tony Khan if AEW would be making any staff or talent cuts now that the company is losing over 50 hours of television per year.
Khan agreed it was a valid question but said he couldn’t give a definitive answer on how AEW would handle the change. He pointed out that AEW is now being paid significantly more for producing four hours of television compared to the previous five-hour schedule. Khan acknowledged that it’s a fair concern and assured that the company would evaluate their approach, while also pointing out the great opportunities ahead.
Regarding some key talent such as Ricky Starks, he will simply not be granted any release whatsoever. Therefore, AEW talent and fans are left uncertain about what the future holds, particularly for those performers unsure about their standing with the company, so we’ll have to wait and see whether we’ll see more cuts in 2025.
