AEW has been involved in a few scandals since they opened their doors. Tony Khan is usually open to speak on things that involve his company, but he also realizes when it is best to refrain from comment.
During a media call promoting the AEW Worlds End pay-per-view, Tony Khan addressed the possibility of adding to the runtime of Dynamite and Collision with AEW’s new deal with Warner Bros. Discovery. He was also asked an intriguing question about a possibility for AEW’s women’s division. Although he gave answers to those questions, Tony Khan was not jumping at the chance to speak on everything.
Tony Khan was asked about Jaime Hawn’s allegations against AEW and its legal team, but he declined to comment. She also blamed the company for her becoming homeless due to the situation. Khan didn’t give an answer, but he did thank the person for bringing up the question.
In case you need a refresher, AEW fired BJ Whitmer in 2023 after his arrest on charges of first-degree strangulation and second-degree burglary. While speaking with News 19 at the time, Hawn shared the struggles she has faced in seeking justice as a survivor.
“It’s physically altering when you’re having to make sure that your voice is being heard. If you don’t attend [court] and you put yourself in this vulnerable environment, it’s very possible that things won’t get mentioned to get that justice. Whether I feel safe or not, the ability to move forward from this? I can’t move forward because now I’m going backward about things that have nothing to do with what happened that day.”
Jamie Hawn accused AEW and its legal team of mishandling her case, claiming it has left her homeless and fighting to retain custody of her children. Although AEW fired BJ Whitmer and initially offered resources such as therapy and security measures, Hawn says her pursuit of justice was derailed.
It should be noted that BJ Whitmer had heat in AEW prior to his arrest. AEW has also offered assistance to Whitmer’s victim. We will have to see if Tony Khan ever comments on this situation, but he didn’t feel it was the right time during the Worlds End media conference call.
