AEW has come a long way when it comes to their women’s division. There was once a time when Britt Baker carried the entire women’s roster on her back, and she did so while injured for several months as well. Now, there is a lot more going on, but there is always the possibility that more could be in the pipeline.
During a media call promoting the AEW Worlds End pay-per-view, Tony Khan addressed the possibility of increasing the runtime of Dynamite and Collision under AEW’s new deal with Warner Bros. Discovery. He was also asked an intriguing question about a possibility for AEW’s women’s division.
When asked about the possibility of a women’s Continental Classic tournament next year, Tony Khan praised the strength of AEW’s women’s division. He highlighted 2024 as a year with some of their best women’s matches.
Tony Khan also acknowledged that injuries have affected the division but expressed interest in holding the tournament once the roster is healthy. He called it an exciting opportunity with strong potential, so the idea is not dead in the water at all.
AEW has several opportunities for women in their company, including two titles that they can fight for. Mariah May is still riding high as AEW Women’s World Champion, with Mercedes Mone proudly carrying the TBS Title. Their yearly Owen Hart tribute tournament also has brackets for the women’s roster.
We will have to see if a round-robin tournament for the women in AEW is an option in the future. Right now, AEW has focused the Continental Classic on the men, but Tony Khan is also still very proud of everything the women in his company have been able to accomplish.
