ECW legend Sabu didn’t hold back when comparing Paul Heyman and Vince McMahon’s creative minds.
During a recent interview with DonutShopChronicles365 on YouTube, Sabu reflected on his time under Heyman’s leadership in the original ECW and his brief stint in WWE’s version of the brand in 2006, offering his take on who he thinks stands out as a true visionary.
“He’s good to work for, sort of. Work with, not work for. He’s great to work with. He’s a genius and has the best mind in the business than anybody,” Sabu said about Heyman. “He had a better mind than Vince.”
Sabu didn’t shy away from addressing the financial struggles that plagued ECW in the 1990s, which often left talent unpaid. But for the hardcore icon, those issues no longer cast a shadow over his respect for Heyman. “When I wrestled for him, he didn’t have the money to pay us. I don’t hold that against him no more. If he had the money to pay us back then, he would’ve.”
Sabu’s comments come as a nod to Heyman’s lasting influence on the wrestling industry, despite ECW’s turbulent history. While Vince McMahon is often credited for turning WWE into a global powerhouse, Sabu clearly believes Heyman’s creative brilliance is unmatched.
