The Rock joined TKO’s Board of Directors earlier this year and it’s clear he has a lot of influence, which made many people wonder whether there’s a chance of The Rock replacing Triple H as Head of WWE Creative. Kevin Nash doesn’t believe that will ever happen and he has explained why in a recent video.
While speaking on his Kliq This podcast, Kevin Nash explained why The Rock will never take over Triple H’s role as Head of Creative in WWE. He talked about how Triple H is very focused on details, which makes him stand out. Nash gave an example of Triple H helping with the entrance of Shinsuke Nakamura.
Triple H worked closely with the production team, explaining exactly how he wanted the lighting to look, even down to small things like where the lights should come from. Nash said that The Rock doesn’t have the time or focus to handle that level of detail.
“Did anybody see the footage? They brought back a Japanese guy, and they were working on his entrance. It was on Instagram. They showed Paul walking the production team through what he wanted. I noticed he said, ‘I want more lighting—not so much from the top, but from underneath,’ and he kind of walked them through this entire process of what he envisioned for this guy’s entrance.
I was just like, man, this is incredible. The attention to detail—always detail, detail, detail. That’s what makes the difference between good and great. He was dialing it in, and I thought to myself, ‘Dwayne doesn’t have the time for that.'”
Kevin Nash compared Triple H to a coach, like Bill Belichick in football, who is deeply involved and knows how to lead a team. Vince McMahon used to run things that way, and Triple H has taken on a similar role.
According to Nash, people in WWE respect Triple H and will go above and beyond for him, which is why the “Triple H era” has been so successful. He believes The Rock and others, like Brian Gewirtz, just don’t have that same ability to connect with and lead the talent.
“When you’re in charge of creative—in what I call ‘the Vince role’ in that company—you’re the coach. Vince was like Bill Belichick; it was Vince’s way, no question. I think if you’re in that position and you play ball, you develop those relationships. Guys like Brady and Gronk had that with Belichick.
But remember when Brady and Gronk were on ESPN? They joked about whether Belichick could coach at North Carolina or something, and they both went, ‘No.’ You can just imagine Belichick saying, ‘I don’t want you anyway.’
The whole point is that what’s causing this upswing in WWE isn’t ‘kind of’ the Triple H era—it is the Triple H era. People will work for him. They’ll run through walls for him. He gets it. That’s the intangible that others, like Brian Gewirtz or even Dwayne, just don’t have.”
Former WWE star Ryback believed that The Rock would fire Triple H after he was appointed as one of TKO’s Board of Directors, but that is clearly never happening. Regardless, WWE is clearly doing very well under Triple H and it’s unlikely he will be replaced anytime soon and fans have accepted that fact.
