The December 24, 2024, Christmas-themed episode of WWE NXT brought plenty of drama and surprises, but it turns out one match almost looked very different.

According to a report from Fightful Select, the bout between Dion Lennox and Ashante “Thee” Adonis wasn’t the original plan for the show.

Sources revealed that the match was initially pitched as a mixed tag team showdown featuring Lennox teaming with Karmen Petrovic to take on Ashante and Nikkita Lyons. However, somewhere along the way, those plans shifted, and the match became a singles contest with Lyons still playing a significant role at ringside.

The episode saw Lyons making her presence felt during the match, ultimately helping Ashante secure the win. While her involvement still got a reaction from the crowd, fans are left wondering what could have been if the original mixed tag match had gone ahead as planned. It’s unclear why WWE decided to pivot, but given Lyons’ recent momentum, it would have been exciting to see her mix it up in tag action.

The rest of the Christmas special delivered on all fronts, from Cora Jade’s fiery confrontation with Kelani Jordan to the chaotic Christmas-themed Fatal 4-Way tag match. The standout moment of the night was undoubtedly Trick Williams raising the stakes for the NXT Championship in a heated Triple Threat setup, but the story of what didn’t happen adds an intriguing layer to the episode.
