Vince McMahon isn’t staying silent in his ongoing legal battle with Janel Grant. The former WWE Chairman made a decisive move on December 23, officially filing to compel arbitration in the highly publicized case. McMahon’s attorney, Jessica T. Rosenburg, submitted the request under the Federal Arbitration Act, aiming to keep the proceedings behind closed doors.
McMahon’s filing states, “Defendant Vincent K. McMahon, by and through his undersigned attorneys, respectfully moves this Court for an order compelling arbitration of this matter pursuant to the Federal Arbitration Act, 9 U.S.C. §§ 3, 4, for the reasons set forth more fully in the accompanying memorandum of law and Declaration of Vincent K. McMahon.”
At the heart of the filing is a January 2022 agreement between McMahon and Grant, which allegedly included a $3 million settlement to ensure confidentiality following their reported consensual three-year relationship. McMahon claims he only paid $1 million after Grant violated the agreement by filing a public lawsuit. His motion insists the dispute belongs in arbitration, not the courtroom.
WWE also jumped into the mix, with their attorney, Daniel J. Toal, filing a similar motion on the same day. WWE requested oral arguments and additional relief as the court deems fit, showing a united front with McMahon’s legal team.
While McMahon and WWE push for arbitration, Grant’s legal team has yet to respond to the motions, leaving the next move in the drama uncertain.
