The 2018 All In event was a major moment in wrestling history because it led to the creation of AEW. Cody Rhodes was one of the key figures behind the event. There were rumors that CM Punk was part of the show but Punk claimed he was never given an offer and now Cody has clarified what really happened.

While speaking to Inside the Ropes, Cody Rhodes talked about CM Punk’s claim that he didn’t get an offer to be part of All In 2018. Cody explained that while Punk might not have received a formal contract, there was a clear effort to involve him. They shared ideas for segments and made it clear they wanted Punk in the event because of his strong fanbase, especially in Chicago.

“If I was to go up to one of you right now, Olly, right? Right? If I was to go up to you right now and just start, like, dry f****** you, you’d probably think it was uncomfortable, right? Slightly. Or, if I was to just come up to you and start making out with you and licking all over you, it would be uncomfortable. So, he’d be worried.

In all the correspondence, if you don’t get back to me, Matt, if you don’t get back to us, we aren’t going to send you terms, paperwork, and things of that nature. If we’ve already extended, extended, extended it, like, it was made very clear that we wanted you to be part of All In because your audience, Punk’s audience, has never given up on him.

Come Chicago, you can do whatever you want. I had a built-in segment—here’s so-and-so, go to sleep—the easiest thing on the planet. Not getting back to us is fine; that’s totally fine. But it was strange when he was like, ‘Oh, well, they never sent me a real offer.’ Hey man, like, it’s just like I’m talking about with you, Olly. I am not on top of you right at this moment, ‘sexing’ you, you know, because you don’t seem like you want it.

Cody Rhodes mentioned they even planned a meet-and-greet for Punk the day before the event, so it felt strange when Punk said he wasn’t given a “real offer.” Cody said their intent to include Punk should have been obvious, even without official paperwork.

“So, that was kind of where we were at with it. And I understand what he means—he never got an offer in terms of terms and paperwork. But in terms of ideas for segments, and our overall interest and passion in wanting him to be there, and, hell, we even coordinated his one-hour meet-and-greet signing to be the day before—come on, man! I’m being as polite as I can be right now. Like, I think we did; he doesn’t think we did. No big deal.

All In 2018’s importance cannot be understated but some fans felt Punk’s involvement would have made it even more memorable. Nevertheless, CM Punk and Cody Rhodes are now working in WWE together and had a brief program heading into the Royal Rumble this year. Therefore, fans are excited to see whether they will have a proper feud in 2025, as many feel it would definitely sell out any Premium Live Event.
