WWE has been stepping up its global presence, delivering major Premium Live Events in countries like France, Germany, Scotland, and Australia over the past year. Now, it seems the company is looking to bring the excitement south of the border, with Mexico City being considered for a 2025 PLE.
According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, discussions are underway to make Mexico City, a historic wrestling hub, the site of a future WWE spectacle. The city already draws wrestling tourism thanks to CMLL’s weekly shows at Arena Mexico, which may limit the financial incentives from local governments. However, the potential is undeniable—venues like Arena Ciudad (Mexico City Arena) have proven to be hotbeds for wrestling, hosting AAA’s TripleMania events and WWE’s recent July tour.
Rey Mysterio, a WWE icon and Mexican wrestling legend, has been one of the loudest voices advocating for a major WWE event in Mexico. “Mexican fans deserve something special,” Mysterio stated after the company’s successful July event in Arena Ciudad, where Stephanie Vaquer made her in-ring debut following her high-profile departure from CMLL.
Arena Ciudad, with its rich wrestling history and capacity for a high-energy audience, is viewed as the perfect venue to deliver WWE’s unique brand of sports entertainment to the passionate Mexican crowd. While no deal has been finalized, the possibility has fans dreaming of the spectacle WWE could bring to the country.
