Nic Nemeth, formerly known as Dolph Ziggler, parted ways with WWE in September 2023 and that genuinely surprised many fans. While it was widely assumed that WWE had released him, it has now been revealed that Nemeth actually requested and was granted his release, even though he still had significant time remaining on his contract.
While speaking to Daily Star, Nic Nemeth revealed that he still had one and a half years remaining on his WWE contract, but the company allowed him to leave early after he requested his release. He explained that he felt unproductive and unfulfilled, spending his time doing short, cold matches while still under contract.
Nemeth expressed concern to WWE about how much longer he could be seen as a credible world champion in other promotions, acknowledging that his prime years might be limited. He emphasized that staying in WWE under those circumstances was not beneficial for either the company or himself. Fortunately, WWE granted his request, allowing him to leave early and move on to other opportunities.
“WWE was so great. I still had a year and a half left on my contract, and I said, ‘Please.’ I told them, ‘I’m not doing anything here. I’m just hanging out and doing cold five-minute matches.’ I said, ‘I don’t know how much longer I’m a believable world champion for any other company. I might have five more years, I might have two, I might have ten, I don’t know. But sitting here collecting a paycheck and working for five minutes a week is not helping WWE, and it sure as hell isn’t helping me.’
Luckily, they gave me the chance to get out of there because I still had time left on my contract. Being able to get out of that bubble was such a relief.”
Nic Nemeth also claimed that Vince McMahon told him he wanted him to stay in WWE forever. Nemeth worked in WWE for 19 years before his departure last year and he has clearly turned things around as he is now the TNA World Champion and thriving in a big way.
As Nic Nemeth continues to excel in TNA, fans are eager to see how he will further solidify his legacy in professional wrestling. His decision to leave WWE appears to have been the right move, giving him the chance to reestablish himself as a top star in the industry.
