Chris Jericho didn’t hold back when discussing Matt Cardona’s recent performances and his potential future with All Elite Wrestling. Cardona, best known to WWE fans as Zack Ryder, has been turning heads with his appearances in AEW and ROH, particularly as Jericho’s challenger for the ROH World Championship at Final Battle.
Speaking on GABBY AF, Jericho praised Cardona’s evolution as a performer, likening his transformation to Jon Moxley’s shift from Dean Ambrose. “He’s done such a great job of reinventing himself and turning himself into a star,” Jericho said. “He’s so much more of a performer and an asset now as Matt Cardona than he ever was as Zack Ryder.”
Jericho reflected on Cardona’s AEW run, pointing out the positive impact he’s had since his surprise return earlier this year. “He’s had great matches, great promos, and got great reactions because he was a surprise. I expect we’re going to tear the house down], and I’d be very surprised if something doesn’t happen after that.”
Jericho highlighted Cardona’s ability to make himself “more relevant than he’s ever been” and credited that reinvention for putting Cardona in a position to potentially secure a long-term spot with AEW. “He’s done exactly what he needed to do to become a bigger star than he’s ever been.”
While there’s no official word yet on whether Cardona will sign with AEW, Jericho’s comments suggest that the door is wide open for the former WWE star to make a significant impact.
