Athena, the reigning ROH Women’s Champion, isn’t holding back about her limited appearances on AEW programming.
During an interview with Denise Salcedo to promote the 2024 ROH Final Battle PPV, Athena opened up about her discussions with Tony Khan and how she feels about being mostly stationed in Ring of Honor.
“I love that they want to see me on All Elite Wrestling,” Athena began. “Tony and I have had several conversations about, ‘Hey, I’d like to do more with AEW. Hey, I’d love to do more with Dynamite, Rampage, whatever.’ Those conversations have been had, and there is a time period where that’s going to happen. It’s changed a lot, I will say that, but it’s still happening.”
Athena made it clear she’s proud to helm ROH, stating, “Athena runs ROH. When people think of Ring of Honor now, it’s me. When I was growing up, it was Bryan [Danielson], Nigel [McGuinness], Samoa Joe, AJ [Styles], the Briscoes, Taven, Adam Cole—but now it’s Athena. This is my show, my brand.”
However, Athena teased fans about her eventual transition to AEW’s main roster, cautioning them to prepare for the chaos she plans to unleash. “Be careful what you ask for, I’m warning you now,” she said. “When Athena comes to AEW, we are ending mediocrity. We are raising the bar, okay? So be careful what you ask for.”
She also had a message for her loyal fans: “It means a lot that my fan base is still there and still appreciates everything that I do. When this finally happens, when all of your favorites end up on the shelf, when they prove they can’t hang with a real wrestler and champion, I want you guys to remember—you wanted this.”
Athena isn’t just talking the talk; she’s promising to shake the foundation of AEW when her time comes. With bold claims and a warning to fans, the ROH Women’s Champion is making it clear she’s ready to dominate when the spotlight finally shifts her way.
