Ivar and Erik of the War Raiders were off WWE television for several months due to their respective neck injuries but made a surprise return on the October 14 episode of Monday Night Raw. However, it appears that they were expected to return earlier this year, as Ivar revealed the original plans for the War Raiders’ return.
While speaking to Chris Van Vliet, Ivar revealed details about the original plans for the War Raiders’ return. He and Erik were initially set to make their comeback on the September 9th episode of Raw in Calgary, which featured Bret Hart. However, the plan was abruptly postponed, with the creative team deciding to delay their return for a better storyline.
The following week, Ivar and Erik received a call asking how they felt about returning under their original name, The War Raiders. Both were on board with the idea and agreed to the updated plan.
“Erik and I were ready to come back. We were actually scheduled to in Calgary Raw, the one Bret Hart was at. At the last second, they pulled our trap and said they were gonna hold off on it. They said nothing but, ‘We’re just gonna hold off for better creative.’ The next week, we get a phone call, ‘Hey, how do you guys feel about coming back as The War Raiders?’ We were like, ‘Yeah, that sounds good.'”
It all turned out for the best as the War Raiders won the World Tag Team Championships after defeating Finn Balor and JD McDonagh on the December 16 episode of Monday Night Raw.
Erik and Ivar have all the momentum in the world right now after becoming the new champions, so fans are eagerly waiting to see whether they will end up having a better reign than Balor and McDonagh, who held the title for almost six months.
