Chris Jericho is ready to put his ROH World Title on the line in a match that’s already got wrestling fans talking. At ROH Final Battle on December 20th, the self-proclaimed “King of New York” will defend his championship against Matt Cardona, a surprising challenger who’s never wrestled in ROH before.

During an appearance on Busted Open Radio, Jericho didn’t hold back while discussing the stakes of this matchup.

“Just the fact that we are doing this is special,” Jericho shared. “The fact that it’s in Hammerstein, with the vibe that is expected. I don’t think anybody expected Matt Cardona to answer this challenge. He’s not an AEW regular. We haven’t seen him a whole lot.”

Jericho reflected on the build-up to this bout, revealing that Cardona’s involvement has been a game-changer. “Ticket sales have pretty much doubled after this match was announced. We’re going to sell out if we haven’t already,” he added.

Jericho also praised Cardona for his evolution in the wrestling world, likening his style to that of Bret Hart. “Matt has done a good job of reinventing himself and recreating himself… Everything he does is very solid. It looks great. It’s very meat and potatoes in the best way,” he said.

But make no mistake—Jericho expects this match to be nothing short of brutal. “Matt is not the type of guy who is going to do a moonsault off the top of the balcony, and neither am I. We’ll leave that to the guys who do that. I expect we’re going to beat the sh*t out of each other with a raucous crowd,” he promised.

With three straight shows at Hammerstein Ballroom and Jericho’s bold claim as the “King of New York,” the stakes couldn’t be higher.
