AEW Women’s World Champion Mariah May calls herself “The Glamour,” so she is well aware of all the fan adulation she gets all over the world. Unfortunately, being a celebrity has its drawbacks and that includes obsessive fans, and it appears she has now called out fans who have stalked her at hotels for violating her personal boundaries.
While speaking to Niko Exxtra, Mariah May made it clear that while she is grateful for her fans and recognizes that they are a big part of her success, there are certain times and places that are more appropriate for fan interactions. She enjoys meeting fans at conventions and is happy to see them outside arenas, but she feels uncomfortable when fans stalk her to places like airports or hotels, adding that something like this has happened in the past.
“I’ve had a couple of weird ones. I think honestly, the weirdest stuff is just the stalking. So, I’m super appreciative of fans and, like, we wouldn’t be here without them. I love interacting, it’s in the room with us, but, you know, we wouldn’t be there without fans. I love doing the conventions and meeting them, and if they’re outside the arena, that’s all cool. But for me, it’s just like when it’s kind of at the airport or at the hotel.”
Mah shared how it feels when fans walk with her into hotels, particularly late at night. Mariah explained that this crosses a line for her because she sees her hotel as a private space where she can relax, sleep, and eat. She stated that while she enjoys meeting fans in public places like arenas or even in cinemas, she needs privacy when she’s in her hotel.
Despite this, Mariah made it clear that she is always open to taking pictures with fans when the time and place are right. She encourages fans to say hi if they see her but asked that they respect her personal boundaries to avoid making her feel uncomfortable.
“Like, if I’m getting to the hotel at 11:30 at night and you’re walking into the hotel with me, I’ve had people walk to the elevators with me and stuff. And it’s just, you know, with the greatest of respect, like, this is my little safe space. I want to shower here, eat, sleep—this isn’t the time. I think right outside the arena, cool, or if we bump into each other wherever, you know, I’ll never say no to a picture. So, if you ever see me, please say hi. I don’t bite. But, yeah, I think it’s just when it kind of crosses a personal boundary.”
Sadly, professional wrestlers dealing with stalkers have become a common thing. This includes the time a stalker was ejected from an NXT hotel for trying to take photos of female wrestlers’ feet. Nonetheless, Mariah’s message is simple: she appreciates fan interaction but gives emphasis to the importance of respecting personal boundaries, particularly in private spaces like hotels.
