Early Plans for CM Punk at WrestleMania 41 Revealed

With WrestleMania 41 season on the horizon, WWE is already setting the stage for its biggest event of the year. CM Punk’s return has reignited speculation about his role at the Showcase of the Immortals, and it looks like the company has some massive plans for the straight-edge superstar.

Punk is currently embroiled in a heated feud with Seth Rollins, and the two are set to clash on January 6 during WWE’s RAW Netflix debut. The rivalry has history, as Punk vs. Rollins was originally penciled in for WrestleMania 40 before Punk was sidelined with an injury.

While there was talk of Punk challenging GUNTHER for the World Title at Survivor Series: WarGames, that match never materialized. Now, according to WrestleVotes during a Backstage Pass Q&A, WWE is looking to position Punk in a World Title match at WrestleMania 41.

“I’ve heard so many things on Punk, especially as of late with the Roman [Reigns] stuff being thrown in there,” WrestleVotes shared. “But the one main factor that I’ve heard almost all year is they want him [Punk] to be involved in a World Title match. I don’t know how the puzzle pieces are going to fit, but they want him at the top.”

However, there’s uncertainty about how Punk fits into WWE’s title picture. WrestleVotes added, “I don’t think it’ll be with Cody [Rhodes], so that’s one title match out the window. Does he fit into the other one? I’m going to say yes at this point. I don’t think it’ll be GUNTHER, Bill [Apter], that’s the thing. I don’t think it’s Punk and GUNTHER. So if they want him involved with the title, then what do you do with GUNTHER?”

With WrestleMania approaching, WWE’s creative team will need to figure out how Punk factors into the World Title scene while ensuring GUNTHER and other major players remain in marquee roles.
