The transition of Monday Night RAW to Netflix marks the start of a new chapter for WWE, but it presents a challenge for British wrestling fans. From next year, pubs and bars in the UK will no longer be able to host WWE watch parties due to Netflix’s streaming restrictions.

Starting January 1, WWE content will move exclusively to Netflix, effectively ending the tradition of “watch parties” where fans gather in public venues to enjoy Premium Live Events. Unlike previous deals with Sky Sports or TNT Sports Box Office, Netflix’s streaming policies prevent bars and pubs from broadcasting its content in the same way.

While speaking to Daily Star, British Member of Parliament Mike Reader, a devoted wrestling fan with prior training experience in the sport, has expressed support for resolving the issue. He emphasized the social and economic benefits of fans watching wrestling together in public venues and urged the Government to take action.

Reader has pledged to monitor developments closely, as government officials, including the Department for Culture, Media, and Sport, are being urged to intervene.

“Watching wrestling with friends and fellow fans can be inspiring. It isn’t only a social good but economically important too. I support the campaign to ensure wrestling watch events can continue. I know the issue is being looked at by government officials, and will keep a close eye on this.”

Netflix typically does not allow its content to be streamed in public places like pubs or bars. The WWE Network also has rules against showing its programs in these settings. In the past, watch parties used special licenses through other platforms to show pay-per-view events.

With less than two weeks left until the transition, fans and pub owners alike are left wondering if a resolution will be reached in time. For now, the fate of watch parties in the UK hangs in the balance, potentially leaving fans without their favorite social viewing experiences.
