Kurt Angle wants to set the record straight after his eyebrow-raising comments about Vince McMahon sent shockwaves through the wrestling world.

During a recent Inside the Ropes interview, Angle made headlines for calling the WWE boss “f**king crazy” and even joking that McMahon was “going to hell when he dies.” While many saw it as classic Kurt candor, the WWE Hall of Famer is now hitting back, claiming his comments were taken way out of context.

Angle took to Twitter on December 17 to backtrack and clarify his intent. “To everyone seeing this, I meant for it to be a joke,” he wrote. “I don’t know why Wrestle Ops or whoever came up with this quote made it look serious. It was a JOKE. I actually complimented Vince on his business mind and incredible work ethic but I guess they decided to leave that out. Of course they did.”

The Olympic gold medalist seemed frustrated by the way his playful remarks were spun, insisting he praised McMahon far more than criticized him. Still, the original quotes gained traction for their bluntness—especially since McMahon’s eccentric backstage reputation is legendary among wrestling fans.

With tensions cleared, Angle made sure to emphasize McMahon’s work ethic, proving there’s still respect behind the jokes.
