At WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event, Cody Rhodes defended his Undisputed WWE Championship against Kevin Owens. Cody won the match, but things took a turn after the show ended as Owens put Rhodes on the shelf and now The Prizefighter is calling himself the “True WWE Champion.”

Kevin Owens took to Twitter and announced that he will wrestle his first matches as the “true WWE Champion” during WWE’s Holiday Tour. The tour starts in Jacksonville on December 26th, followed by three more shows in Florida and ending in Detroit. Owens joked about the “Holiday loop,” explaining it’s wrestling term for a series of back-to-back shows in different cities.

“BALLZ!!! Now that I have your attention, I have great news for you all! I am proud to officially announce that I will be competing in my first matches as your new, true WWE Champion on this year’s Holiday loop (that’s a term people in “the business” use that refers to a string of consecutive shows in different cities over a short period of time) starting in Jacksonville on the 26th, followed by 3 more shows in Florida and then one in Detroit for some reason. Be there to witness history! Oh, the Raw crew has shows too. Whatever.”

After the main event ended, Kevin Owens wasn’t done with Cody Rhodes. Once the cameras were off, Owens ambushed Rhodes with a brutal package piledriver that left the fans shocked. The move severely injured Rhodes, and medical staff quickly rushed to his aid. Rhodes was stretchered out of the arena due to the seriousness of the attack.

As Owens made his way backstage with the championship in hand, Triple H stormed out and snatched the title away from him. The two had a heated face-off, pushing each other, before referees stepped in to separate them.

Afterwards, Owens declared himself the true owner of the winged eagle championship, firmly stating that he believes he is the rightful champion. Therefore, Owens declaring himself as the “True WWE Champion” will lead to a long-term storyline that will keep fans engaged for the next few months.
