WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event at Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum had fans fuming before the action even began, as doors to the venue remained locked well past the scheduled opening time of 6 PM ET. The culprit? Last-minute rehearsals running late, according to Sean Ross Sapp on Fightful Select’s Backstage podcast.
“Very unusual,” Sapp explained, revealing that WWE was still deep into rehearsals as the clock ticked past the planned opening time. This left hundreds of fans, many decked out in their favorite WWE gear, stuck outside in 20-degree weather, sparking frustration and anger throughout the crowd.
Social media erupted as attendees documented their chilly ordeal. One fan tweeted, “Doors were supposed to open at 6 PM. HUGE long lines of people standing outside.” Another wrote, “It’s 20 degrees on Long Island and doors STILL haven’t opened. Fans are chanting, ‘Let us in!’” Videos of the chant captured the growing unrest, as parents, kids, and die-hard wrestling fans tried to keep warm while waiting for answers.
This isn’t the first time fans have experienced delays at a live event, but the freezing temperatures added insult to injury. Many criticized both WWE and Nassau Coliseum for the lack of communication about the hold-up, demanding better handling of such situations in the future.
As WWE continues to deliver great in-ring action, incidents like this remind the company of the importance of keeping fans informed and comfortable. Despite the drama outside, the card for Saturday Night’s Main Event promised plenty of excitement inside the arena.
