Matt Cardona spent several years of his career in WWE and developed his craft as Zack Ryder as he is truly a student of the game. One of his most famous contributions was his popular catchphrase “Woo woo woo, you know it” and he has now admitted that he took inspiration from Ric Flair for the catchphrase.
While speaking to RJ City on Hey! (EW), Matt Cardona was asked about his “Woo woo woo, you know it” catchphrase and how it happened. Cardona explained that it was okay to borrow from Flair since Flair’s catchphrase was just repeating “Woo.”
Cardona also mentioned that he would say “Woo! Woo! Woo!” to women at clubs when a “hot girl” walked by, thinking it was funny and annoying. He then realized he could use this on TV to make it get over, and it worked.
“I guess it’s fine if you steal from Ric Flair three times in a row. Well, that was kind of Ric Flair’s catchphrase, I guess—times three. But it was also what I would say to girls in the club. Like, a hot girl would walk by, and I’d say, ‘Woo! Woo! Woo!’ It was so annoying. I thought, ‘I can use this on TV and get it over.’ And look what happened!”
Matt Cardona hasn’t been part of WWE since his release in 2020 and has completely changed his career for the better in the independent circuit, establishing himself as the “Indy God” for his achievements in various independent wrestling promotions.
As for Matt Cardona’s current career trajectory, he is set to challenge Chris Jericho for the ROH World Title at Final Battle 2024, so it’s clear his career is flourishing more than ever. We’ll have to see if he will end up beating Jericho for the title, but Cardona’s iconic catchphrase will always remain a part of time no matter what.
