CM Punk has never been one to hold back his opinions, and he made that crystal clear during a digital exclusive interview on WWE’s YouTube channel at Saturday Night’s Main Event. Sitting down with Jackie Redmond and Peter Rosenberg, Punk didn’t just talk wrestling—he tore into one of the most commonly used terms in the industry: “moveset.”
The discussion took a sharp turn when Rosenberg, unaware that Koko B. Ware was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame back in 2009, praised Koko’s “moveset.” Punk immediately interjected, saying, “Don’t say moveset.” His reaction left Redmond and Rosenberg curious, prompting Redmond to ask why the term rubbed him the wrong way.
Punk didn’t mince words in his reply: “It’s garbage. If you say that, you’re an idiot. Especially if you’re a wrestler, and you say ‘moveset.’ That 100% tells me you don’t know what the hell you’re doing.”
Instead of focusing on moves, Punk shifted the spotlight to Koko B. Ware’s greatness, crediting his ability to connect with fans beyond flashy maneuvers. “All the greats know it’s not about the moves,” Punk emphasized, making his disdain for the term clear.
This isn’t the first time Punk has voiced his disdain for “moveset.” Back in April 2021, he took to Twitter with a strong statement, writing, “Normalize getting rid of the term ‘moveset.’” For Punk, wrestling is about storytelling and crowd connection, not just a collection of moves.
Though Punk didn’t wrestle at Saturday Night’s Main Event, he’s set to appear live on WWE Raw, leaving fans eager to see what’s next for the outspoken star.
