Matt Cardona, formerly known as Zack Ryder in WWE, might finally be settling into a permanent role with All Elite Wrestling.

Speculation is mounting that the former Intercontinental Champion has either signed or is close to signing a long-term contract with AEW, a move that could solidify his presence within Tony Khan’s growing wrestling empire.

Cardona, who has appeared sporadically in AEW over the years, is currently engaged in a fiery feud with Chris Jericho in Ring of Honor, which has crossed over into AEW programming. Most recently, Cardona made an appearance on AEW Dynamite, adding fuel to the rumors of a potential full-time deal.

On Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer shed light on the situation, stating, “I know that there was at least talk of Cardona getting an AEW contract. I don’t know if it’s gonna happen or not [or] if he’s already agreed. I guess we’ll find out, obviously, if he beats Jericho. Which I don’t expect to happen, but if he does, obviously they won’t do it unless he’s under contract.”

This feud has also spilled into other promotions. Jericho recently made a surprise appearance at a GCW event, attacking both Cardona and Effy. The crossover moment hinted at a potential working relationship between AEW and GCW, further entwining Cardona in AEW’s network of partnerships.

For Cardona, this potential deal marks a pivotal moment in his career. During his WWE tenure, he was a fan favorite but often relegated to mid-card status. After leaving WWE, Cardona reinvented himself on the independent scene, showcasing a more intense and versatile persona. His time in ROH and crossover into AEW programming has only amplified his credibility and fan support.

If Cardona’s deal with AEW is finalized, it could provide a fresh platform for him to continue elevating his career and exploring new opportunities. With his current momentum and ongoing feud with Jericho, the timing seems perfect for Cardona to officially join AEW’s ranks.
